Rise Above: Manny Antonio De Anda’s Journey to Greatness

“Mountains are meant to be climbed, and challenges are meant to be overcome.” These words aren’t just a motto for Manny Antonio De Anda—they’re a way of life. From his early days training under a humble carport with a single speed bag and one heavy bag in 2020 to his rapid ascent as a two-time Golden Gold champion, Manny, known in the ring as Manny Boxer, has transformed every setback into a stepping stone. As he gears up for his professional debut on Saturday, March 8, 2025, his journey is a testament to the power of discipline, passion, and a community that believes in rising together. Today, we delve deeper into his story, honor his legacy, and look ahead to a future filled with promise and triumph.

The Humble Beginnings: A Story of Grit and Determination

Every champion’s journey begins with a spark—a moment when potential is recognized amidst the simplicity of humble surroundings. For Manny, that spark was ignited in a modest gym set up under a carport. With just one speed bag and one heavy bag to his name, Manny’s early training sessions were defined by long hours, early mornings, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. In those formative years, every drop of sweat was a declaration of his determination to rise above his circumstances.

The early days were far from glamorous. The training space, though small, echoed with the sounds of ambition and the relentless thud of gloves against leather. It was in this unassuming setting that Manny honed his skills, building not just his physical strength but also an iron-clad resolve. The challenges he faced in that modest gym were many—limited resources, grueling training schedules, and the constant reminder that every great champion begins somewhere. Yet, in the face of adversity, Manny’s spirit only grew stronger.

His journey is a living reminder that greatness is not defined by where you start but by the courage and commitment you bring to every challenge. The evolution from those early training days to becoming a two-time champion is a narrative woven with threads of persistence, sacrifice, and an unyielding hunger for excellence.

Manny’s career is steeped in legacy—a legacy that is both personal and communal. The recent passing of his father in November has left an indelible mark on his life, a poignant reminder of the love and support that fueled his dreams. His father’s unwavering belief in his potential continues to resonate in every punch thrown and every training session completed. For Manny, each day in the gym is a tribute, a way to honor a man who instilled in him the values of perseverance, humility, and hard work.

In the ring, Manny isn’t just fighting opponents—he’s battling the weight of expectations and the memory of a father whose legacy lives on in his son’s relentless drive. Empowering the Next Generation: Building Resilience from a Young Age

There’s a popular saying: “We have to start them young.” But rarely do we pause to explore exactly why. When it comes to combat sports and self-defense, the benefits stretch far beyond the mats and training sessions. They’re about shaping the next generation of greatness, instilling values that last a lifetime, and empowering kids—boys and girls alike—to stand tall, build unshakable confidence, and learn that they always have their own back.

In today’s post, we’re diving deep into the world of combat sports for kids and how these practices not only teach practical self-defense but also mold character, resilience, and inner strength. And while the spotlight is on our young warriors, we’re also expanding our conversation to include insights on yoga, healthy eating, jiujitsu, adventures, and the art of living a life filled with passion and purpose. So whether you’re a parent, a coach, or a woman looking for ways to nurture your inner warrior, this blog is your invitation to join a community that values growth, empowerment, and a zest for life.

The Foundation of Confidence: Why Start Young?

Children are like blank canvases, ready to be molded into the masterpieces they’re destined to become. Teaching kids combat sports is not just about teaching them to throw a punch or execute a perfect takedown. It’s about instilling confidence through repetition and resilience. Each time a child steps on the mat, they’re learning that with persistence, every challenge is just another opportunity to shine.

The statistics speak for themselves. More and more kids continue training well beyond their teenage years, carrying forward a legacy of determination, discipline, and self-belief. It’s not about fostering arrogance or a sense of invincibility. Rather, it’s about building respect—both for oneself and from others. When kids learn self-defense techniques, they’re also learning the importance of boundaries, personal integrity, and standing up for what they believe in.

This confidence isn’t built overnight. It’s forged in the fires of constant practice, in the repeated drills and sparring sessions that shape not just a fighter, but a resilient human being. Much like a diamond is formed under intense pressure, these young athletes emerge stronger, with a deep-rooted assurance that they are capable of overcoming any adversity.

A Nurturing Approach to Combat Sports

There’s an old adage in combat training: “The best defense is a good offense.” However, in our approach, we prioritize nurturing over aggression. While the physical techniques are crucial, the real magic lies in the mental and emotional growth that accompanies each lesson. Kids learn to channel their energy, focus their minds, and approach conflicts with a sense of calm determination rather than fear or anger.

This method isn’t limited to kids. As women navigating the complexities of modern life, many of us find that the lessons of combat sports—discipline, perseverance, and self-respect—translate seamlessly into our daily challenges. Whether you’re stepping into a boardroom, managing a household, or pursuing personal passions, the principles remain the same. Knowing that you have your own back gives you the courage to take risks and forge ahead, even when the going gets tough.

Consider the philosophy behind jiujitsu—a martial art that teaches you to use an opponent’s strength against them. It’s a profound lesson in adaptability, one that encourages us to see every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. Much like in life, sometimes the best move is to let the pressure guide you into a position of strength rather than fighting it head-on.

Historical Inspirations: Women Who Overcame the Odds

History is filled with stories of women who, against all odds, carved out paths to greatness by embracing their inner strength. Take, for example, Harriet Tubman, who risked her life to lead enslaved people to freedom through the Underground Railroad. Her courage in the face of unimaginable danger is a testament to the power of resilience and determination. Similarly, Rosa Parks showed the world that a quiet act of defiance could spark a movement, reminding us that sometimes, the simplest acts of resistance are the most powerful.

Another remarkable figure is Amelia Earhart, whose daring flights broke barriers and redefined what women could achieve in a male-dominated world. Her story is one of relentless pursuit—a reminder that no dream is too big when you have the grit and passion to chase it. And then there’s Malala Yousafzai, whose bravery in advocating for education in the face of violent opposition has inspired millions around the globe.

These women remind us that our struggles are not signs of weakness but opportunities to shine. They teach us that every setback is merely a stepping stone on the path to greatness. In our training rooms, on the yoga mats, and in the kitchens where we craft healthy meals, we honor their legacy by pushing forward, learning from the past, and creating a future where every woman can rise to her full potential.

The Symphony of Movement: Yoga, Jiujitsu, and the Art of Balance

For many of us, finding balance in life is an ongoing journey. As a successful business owner who believes in holistic wellness, I’ve discovered that integrating practices like yoga with the discipline of jiujitsu creates a powerful synergy. Yoga, with its focus on breath, flexibility, and mindfulness, offers the perfect counterbalance to the intensity of combat sports. It’s a practice that nurtures the body and the spirit, reminding us to be present and to appreciate the beauty of each moment.

Imagine beginning your day with a sun salutation sequence, feeling your muscles stretch and your breath deepen, and then channeling that inner calm into an energizing jiujitsu class. It’s a harmonious blend of serenity and strength—a dance that mirrors the challenges of daily life. And just like in a well-choreographed routine, each movement has a purpose, each step is deliberate, and every stumble is simply part of the learning process.

To truly uplift your spirit, I recommend a few songs that have become my personal anthems of resilience and empowerment. Start your morning with “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten—a reminder that no matter how daunting the day may seem, you have the power to overcome any obstacle. For moments when you need a burst of energy, put on Katy Perry’s “Roar” and let its empowering beat remind you of your inner lioness. And when you’re in need of a soothing moment of reflection, allow Sara Bareilles’ “Brave” to guide you into a space of quiet strength and self-belief.

Healthy Eating: Fueling the Warrior Within

What we feed our bodies is just as important as the physical and mental training we undergo. Healthy eating is the foundation upon which we build our strength, energy, and vitality. A balanced diet rich in whole foods, lean proteins, and vibrant vegetables isn’t just fuel—it’s medicine for the body and soul.

In my own journey, I’ve found that integrating healthy recipes into a busy lifestyle can be both fun and creative. Think of your plate as a canvas: the vibrant greens of fresh spinach, the rich reds of tomatoes, the golden hues of sweet potatoes—all working together to create a masterpiece of nourishment. For those of you looking for inspiration, try a hearty quinoa salad tossed with roasted vegetables and a zesty lemon vinaigrette. Or perhaps a nourishing smoothie bowl loaded with antioxidant-rich berries and topped with crunchy granola for texture.

The key is to view healthy eating not as a chore, but as an exciting opportunity to experiment and discover new flavors. Each meal is a chance to honor your body, to celebrate the gift of life, and to reinforce the belief that you deserve nothing but the best.

Embracing Life with a Spirit of Exploration

Living a life of wellness and empowerment means embracing adventure, both big and small. Whether it’s a weekend hike in nature, an impromptu road trip, or trying out a new workout class, every adventure is an opportunity to grow, learn, and celebrate life.

I encourage you to step outside your comfort zone—try a new sport, visit a place you’ve never been, or simply take a different route on your daily walk. Life is full of moments waiting to be discovered, and each adventure is a chapter in the story of your remarkable journey. These experiences not only add joy and excitement to our lives but also remind us that we are capable of overcoming challenges and adapting to change.

Just as in combat sports, where each sparring session teaches you something new about your body and mind, every adventure enriches your life with wisdom and experiences that last a lifetime. Embrace the unknown, and let curiosity be your guide.

Recipes for Success and Wellness: A Blend of Passion and Purpose

Success isn’t achieved in isolation—it’s a blend of passion, purpose, and the willingness to take bold steps. As someone who has built a thriving business around wellness and empowerment, I believe that every woman has the potential to achieve greatness when she combines discipline with creativity.

In the kitchen, this means experimenting with recipes that not only taste great but also nourish your body. Consider dishes that are both satisfying and healthy. For instance, a vibrant Buddha bowl filled with an assortment of fresh vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can be a metaphor for life itself—a mix of colors, textures, and flavors that come together to create something truly extraordinary.

Just as a well-balanced meal fuels your body, a well-balanced life fuels your spirit. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, activities that excite you, and habits that promote growth. Whether it’s a new fitness class, a creative project, or simply spending quality time with loved ones, every moment is a building block toward a fulfilling life.

The Power of Love and Community

At the heart of every great journey is the power of love and the strength of community. It’s about knowing that you’re never truly alone on your path, that there’s always someone ready to lend a helping hand or share in your joy. In our world of wellness, self-defense, and healthy living, community plays a pivotal role.

Imagine a circle of like-minded women, each with their own unique story, coming together to support one another. Whether it’s in a yoga class, a jiujitsu training session, or a cooking workshop, the bonds we form are as vital as the skills we learn. These connections remind us that together, we are stronger. They are the foundation of a community where every woman feels seen, heard, and empowered to achieve her dreams.

Every journey is punctuated by moments of pain and defeat. Just like the great fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov never lost his resolve, even when his opponents landed heavy blows, you too can learn that a few bruises are part of the process. Life isn’t about maintaining an unblemished record of victories; it’s about getting back up each time you fall. This blog isn’t for the person who’s always been on top of their game—it’s for you, the one who sometimes finds it a challenge to get back on your feet after being rocked by life.

When life throws its punches, it’s natural to wonder, “How do I cope? What is my outlet?” Many of us turn to what feels immediately comforting—often, that means indulging in food. But, as many have discovered, comfort food can quickly become a crutch, weighing you down in more ways than one. It’s a bit like fighting with a dull sword—eventually, you have to put it down and find a sharper, more sustainable way to reclaim your power.

Finding Your Outlet: Beyond the Comfort Zone

So, what’s the alternative? How do you develop an outlet that not only comforts you in the moment but also strengthens you for the battles ahead? For many women, the answer lies in movement—both physical and emotional. When you commit to practices like yoga and jiujitsu, you’re not just learning new skills; you’re training your body to withstand life’s blows and your mind to celebrate every recovery.

Yoga: The Art of Gentle Resilience

Yoga isn’t merely a form of exercise—it’s a pathway to understanding the intricate connection between your body and soul. When you roll out your mat and surrender to each pose, you’re learning to balance the physical with the emotional. Each stretch and each breath serves as a reminder that no matter how much life bends you out of shape, you have the power to return to your natural state of balance.

Imagine a session where every inhale fills you with determination and every exhale releases the negativity of the past. This practice teaches you that even if you falter, there’s always a moment to reset. It’s the perfect metaphor for life: sometimes you have to fall to find your center, and from that center, rise stronger than before.

Jiujitsu: Embracing the Warrior Within

While yoga nurtures your inner calm, jiujitsu hones your fighting spirit. In jiujitsu, the philosophy is simple: you might get hit, but you learn to use the momentum against your opponent. This martial art isn’t about brute strength; it’s about strategy, resilience, and, above all, recovery. Much like life, every grapple in jiujitsu teaches you that the true battle isn’t in avoiding contact—it’s in learning how to respond to it with grace and determination.

By practicing jiujitsu, you’re not only building physical strength but also cultivating mental fortitude. Every drill, every sparring session is a lesson in recovery: if you get pinned down, there’s always a way to twist, turn, and break free. This very idea can transform your outlook on life—reminding you that every setback is temporary, and every challenge is an opportunity to reinvent yourself.

Nourishing Your Body, Nourishing Your Soul

It’s no secret that the foods we choose play a vital role in how we face life’s battles. While comfort foods might offer a momentary escape, they can sometimes weigh you down, making it harder to carry on the fight. Instead, consider fueling your body with foods that are both delicious and nourishing—a recipe for physical and emotional resilience.

A Healthy Recipe for Empowerment

Let me share one of my favorite recipes—a vibrant, energizing smoothie bowl designed to kick-start your day with a burst of vitality. It’s not only healthy but also a celebration of life’s colors:

Empowerment Smoothie Bowl Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana

  • 1 cup of mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)

  • 1 handful of spinach

  • 1 tablespoon of chia seeds

  • 1 tablespoon of almond butter

  • 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk

  • A dash of cinnamon

  • Toppings: sliced kiwi, coconut flakes, a drizzle of honey, and a sprinkle of granola

Instructions:

  1. In a high-speed blender, combine the frozen banana, mixed berries, spinach, chia seeds, almond butter, almond milk, and cinnamon. Blend until smooth.

  2. Pour the mixture into a bowl and add your favorite toppings.

  3. Enjoy your creation as a reminder that every healthy choice is a step toward reclaiming your power.

This smoothie bowl is more than just a meal—it’s a daily ritual of self-love and resilience. When you choose to nourish yourself with foods that empower you, you’re sending a message to your body and mind: you deserve the best fuel to carry you through every challenge.

Movement as Medicine: Adventures and Self-Discovery

The journey of recovery isn’t confined to a yoga mat or the dojo—it extends to the world around you. Embracing adventure is a powerful way to rediscover yourself, push your limits, and find joy in the everyday. Whether it’s hiking through a scenic trail, exploring a new city, or simply taking a spontaneous weekend trip, every adventure offers a fresh perspective on life’s battles.

There’s something incredibly liberating about stepping out of your comfort zone. Each new experience is a lesson in courage, a reminder that the world is vast and full of opportunities. When you travel, you challenge your perceptions, meet diverse people, and learn that the resilience you need is already within you.

Picture yourself trekking through a serene forest, the early morning mist enveloping you like a soft embrace. Every step you take is an act of defiance against the pressures that seek to weigh you down. This connection with nature is both healing and invigorating, a natural antidote to the stress and self-doubt that can often cloud your path.

Stories of Historical Warriors: Learning from the Past

History is filled with remarkable women who, despite facing immense challenges, rose to become beacons of resilience and strength. Their stories are not just tales from the past—they are powerful reminders that you, too, have the inner strength to overcome any obstacle.

Joan of Arc: A Beacon of Courage

Joan of Arc is perhaps one of the most iconic examples of female courage. Despite her youth and the overwhelming odds against her, she led armies and inspired a nation. Her unwavering determination in the face of adversity teaches us that true strength lies in believing in yourself, even when the world doubts you.

Harriet Tubman: The Unyielding Spirit

Harriet Tubman’s life is a testament to the indomitable human spirit. Escaping the shackles of slavery, she risked everything to lead others to freedom through the Underground Railroad. Tubman’s journey was fraught with danger and uncertainty, yet her resolve never wavered. Her story inspires us to keep fighting, to keep believing that every courageous act brings us closer to liberation.

Amelia Earhart: Soaring Against the Odds

Amelia Earhart shattered barriers in an era when women were expected to stay on the ground. As the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic, Earhart’s daring spirit broke stereotypes and opened new avenues for women around the globe. Her adventures remind us that the sky is not the limit—it’s just the beginning.

Maya Angelou: Rising from the Ashes

In her own words, Maya Angelou once said, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” Her life was a series of battles against injustice, personal trauma, and adversity. Yet, through her resilience and lyrical wisdom, Angelou became a symbol of empowerment and hope. Her legacy continues to inspire countless women to reclaim their narratives and rise stronger after every fall.

These women did not have the luxury of a perfect streak, and neither do you—and that’s perfectly okay. What matters is your ability to pick yourself up, to learn from every setback, and to transform your pain into power.

Music to Fuel Your Fire

Music has an uncanny ability to lift our spirits, to remind us that we are not alone in our struggles, and to infuse us with the courage to keep moving forward. Here are a few songs that I recommend to help you tap into your inner warrior:

  • “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten: An anthem for anyone who feels like they’ve been knocked down. Its powerful lyrics remind you that your voice matters, and your strength is unstoppable.

  • “Roar” by Katy Perry: This hit is a vibrant celebration of reclaiming your power. Let its beat push you to embrace your inner lioness and roar with confidence.

  • “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson: A reminder that every hardship only makes you stronger. Every challenge is a stepping stone to a more resilient you.

When you feel overwhelmed, press play on one of these tracks. Let the rhythm of the music be a heartbeat that syncs with your own—reminding you that every setback is temporary and every challenge is an invitation to rise higher.

Embracing a Holistic Lifestyle: Yoga, Love, and Self-Care

As you navigate the many challenges life throws your way, it’s essential to integrate self-care into every facet of your daily routine. Embracing a holistic lifestyle means caring for your body, mind, and spirit with equal passion. Here are some practices to keep you balanced and empowered:

Daily Yoga Practice

Incorporate a daily yoga routine into your life—even if it’s just 10 minutes a day. Over time, you’ll notice improvements in your flexibility, mental clarity, and emotional resilience. Yoga not only strengthens your body but also cultivates a sense of inner peace, giving you the stamina to face life’s battles head-on.

Mindful Eating

Pay attention to what you put in your body. Choose foods that not only satisfy your hunger but also provide the energy you need to keep fighting. Experiment with recipes that are both healthy and delicious. Remember, nourishing your body is a form of self-love—a way of saying, “I matter.”

Building Emotional Resilience

The path to recovery is often paved with self-reflection and acceptance. Embrace mindfulness practices, journaling, or even meditation to help process your emotions. These practices create a safe space for healing, allowing you to acknowledge your struggles without being defined by them.

Connecting with a Community

You’re not alone on this journey. Surround yourself with like-minded women who understand the fight and the beauty of the comeback. Whether it’s through local meetups, online communities, or wellness groups, share your experiences and learn from others. There is immeasurable strength in community—a shared story can ignite the courage in someone who is still searching for their own.

Imagine combining the relentless drive of David Goggins with the nurturing wisdom of a loving mentor. That’s the energy I strive to embody—and to help you embody. Yes, life will hit hard, and there will be days when it feels like the weight of the world is upon you. But remember: you have an infinite reservoir of strength within you.

Your journey is not defined solely by the blows you take but by the grace with which you rise. Whether you’re facing physical challenges on the mat, navigating the ups and downs of your career, or battling internal demons of self-doubt, know this: every time you rise, you redefine what strength looks like. It’s in your daily decision to rise above, to fight the good fight, and to cherish every victory—even the small ones.

Embrace Your Journey: A Wellness Odyssey for Empowered Women

Working on yourself is a precious journey—a winding, challenging, and transformative path that molds us into our best selves. There are moments when second-guessing creeps in, when doubts arise like unexpected clouds on an otherwise sunny day. Yet, every twist and turn is part of a grand adventure that leads you to the happiness and vitality you so richly deserve. Whether you discover your power through the serene flow of yoga or the dynamic energy of jiujitsu, the essence remains the same: it’s about forging your own path to wellness, joy, and self-discovery.

In this blog, we’re celebrating the spirit of exploration—of finding the workout, the meal, the adventure, or the community that makes you shine. You’ll find a blend of inspiring stories, practical tips, and a heartfelt invitation to join a thriving community of women who are rewriting what it means to be strong, healthy, and unstoppable. So, let’s dive in, embrace the challenges, and keep exploring together!

The Journey to Self-Discovery and Wellness

There is beauty in the process of becoming. The journey to wellness isn’t a straight line; it’s a series of peaks and valleys that, when embraced, enrich our lives with resilience and wisdom. At times, you may find yourself questioning your choices or doubting your path. Remember, even the most successful and vibrant women have faced moments of uncertainty. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said,

“You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
This powerful reminder encourages us to step beyond our comfort zones and pursue our dreams despite the obstacles.

Self-improvement is a lifelong commitment. It’s not about perfection but about progress—small, deliberate steps that build into a transformative journey. Whether it’s learning a new form of exercise, experimenting with healthy recipes, or simply taking time to reflect on your experiences, every step is a victory. Embrace the second-guessing as part of your growth. It’s a sign that you’re pushing boundaries, exploring possibilities, and evolving into the best version of yourself.

Finding Your Path: Yoga, Jiujitsu, and the Power of Movement

For many, movement is the cornerstone of wellness. But remember, not every path suits every soul. If the tranquility of yoga doesn’t resonate with you, perhaps the discipline and dynamism of jiujitsu will. The truth is, there are countless roads to the same destination: physical and mental empowerment.

Yoga: The Art of Mindful Movement

Yoga is more than just a series of poses—it’s a practice of mindfulness and inner strength. It teaches us to breathe, to be present, and to honor our bodies. For women who seek a gentle yet profound way to connect with themselves, yoga offers a sanctuary of calm and clarity. Picture yourself in a sunlit studio, the soft hum of calming music in the background, as you flow through poses that nurture both body and spirit. This is your time—a moment to reconnect with your inner strength and let go of the day’s stress.

Jiujitsu: Empowerment Through Combat and Flow

On the flip side, if you’re craving a challenge that ignites your inner warrior, consider jiujitsu. Often dubbed the “gentle art,” jiujitsu is not about brute force but about technique, strategy, and resilience. It empowers you to defend yourself while building mental toughness. In the dojo, every move, every submission, is a lesson in perseverance. Women like Ronda Rousey have shown the world that the martial arts are not just for men—they are a platform where strength meets grace, and where the power of the human spirit shines brightest.

Exploring Beyond: The Magic of Movement

The key is to know what resonates with you. Perhaps lifting weights isn’t your calling; maybe a brisk cardio workout or a dance class that sets your heart racing is where you belong. The beauty of the wellness journey lies in its diversity—there is no “one size fits all.” Experiment, explore, and let your body guide you toward the activity that feels like a natural extension of your inner vitality. Every sweat-drenched session and every moment of stillness on the mat is a step toward discovering your unique rhythm in life.

A recommended anthem for these moments of transformation is “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten. Its empowering lyrics and driving beat serve as a reminder that even when the going gets tough, you have an indomitable spirit ready to overcome any challenge.

Nourish to Flourish: Healthy Eating and Delicious Recipes

Wellness isn’t just about movement—it’s also about what fuels your body. Healthy eating is the cornerstone of a vibrant life. It’s about savoring foods that nourish you from the inside out, making each meal a celebration of life’s flavors and vitality.

The Art of Mindful Eating

When you fuel your body with wholesome, nutrient-rich foods, you’re not just feeding your physical form—you’re nurturing your soul. Think of each meal as an opportunity to express self-love. From vibrant salads bursting with colors and textures to hearty, nourishing soups on chilly days, every dish can be a delicious reminder of your commitment to health.

A Recipe for Vibrance: The Ultimate Power Bowl

Here’s a recipe designed to energize and delight—a Power Bowl that’s as visually stunning as it is nutritious:

Ingredients:

  • Base: 1 cup of quinoa or brown rice (cooked)

  • Greens: A generous handful of baby spinach or kale

  • Proteins: Grilled chicken breast or chickpeas for a plant-based option

  • Veggies: Sliced avocado, cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots, and steamed broccoli

  • Extras: A sprinkle of nuts (almonds or walnuts) and a dash of feta cheese

  • Dressing: A light lemon-tahini dressing (blend together 1 lemon’s juice, 2 tablespoons tahini, a splash of water, salt, and pepper)

Instructions:

  1. Start with a base of quinoa or brown rice in a large bowl.

  2. Layer on the greens, followed by your protein choice.

  3. Arrange the veggies artfully on top.

  4. Drizzle the lemon-tahini dressing over the bowl.

  5. Finish with a sprinkle of nuts and feta cheese for that perfect crunch and tang.

Enjoy this bowl as a vibrant lunch or dinner that not only delights your taste buds but also fuels your body for whatever adventure lies ahead.

Exploring Nutritional Diversity

Remember, just as with exercise, there’s no single diet that fits everyone. Some days you might crave a hearty, warming soup; other days, a light, refreshing smoothie bowl may be just the ticket. Embrace the exploration of flavors as a journey toward discovering what best nourishes your unique body and soul. Incorporate seasonal produce, experiment with new spices, and celebrate the joy of cooking as a powerful act of self-care.

Adventures and the Art of Self-Care

Life is an adventure, and your wellness journey should be no different. It’s about venturing into the unknown, challenging your limits, and finding joy in the little moments. Whether you’re hiking a rugged trail, exploring a new city, or simply taking a leisurely walk in nature, each step is a testament to your courage and determination.

The Thrill of New Experiences

Every adventure, no matter how small, is an opportunity to break free from routine and infuse your life with excitement. When you explore new terrains—be it a local park or a far-flung destination—you’re not only strengthening your body; you’re feeding your soul with memories and experiences that last a lifetime.

Consider planning an outdoor workout session where you combine the serenity of yoga with the thrill of nature. Imagine stretching your limbs beneath a canopy of trees, breathing in the crisp air, and letting the natural rhythm of the outdoors invigorate your spirit. Alternatively, sign up for a jiujitsu class in an unconventional setting—a beachfront session at sunrise, where the sound of crashing waves meets the disciplined focus of martial arts.

The Power of Self-Care Rituals

Self-care is an essential ingredient in your wellness recipe. It’s about carving out time for yourself amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whether it’s a quiet moment with a cup of herbal tea, a rejuvenating spa day, or a night in with a good book and uplifting music, self-care helps you recharge and rediscover your inner light.

A wonderful song to add to your self-care playlist is “Roar” by Katy Perry. Its upbeat tempo and empowering lyrics remind you that you have the strength to overcome any challenge. Let the music be a beacon of motivation as you carve out time for the activities that soothe your mind and elevate your spirit.

Empowered Stories: Lessons from Historical Trailblazers

History is filled with women whose lives are testaments to courage, resilience, and unyielding determination. Their stories are not just tales of the past—they are vibrant sources of inspiration for every woman striving to overcome challenges and leave her mark on the world.

Harriet Tubman: A Beacon of Freedom

Harriet Tubman’s life is a powerful reminder of what it means to be fearless in the face of adversity. Escaping the bonds of slavery, she risked everything to lead others to freedom through the Underground Railroad. Tubman’s unwavering commitment to justice and liberation teaches us that our personal journeys, no matter how fraught with danger, can lead to profound transformation and hope.

Rosa Parks: The Courage of Quiet Defiance

In a world where conformity was the norm, Rosa Parks chose to stand up for what was right. By refusing to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus, she ignited a spark that fueled the Civil Rights Movement. Parks’ quiet yet resolute act of defiance is a testament to the power of standing by one’s beliefs—even in the face of overwhelming opposition. Her legacy reminds us that sometimes, the most courageous acts begin with the courage to simply say, “No.”

Malala Yousafzai: A Voice for the Voiceless

In more recent times, Malala Yousafzai has become a global symbol of resilience. Surviving a brutal attack for simply advocating for girls’ education in Pakistan, Malala transformed her pain into a powerful movement for change. Her message is clear: education is the key to empowerment, and every woman has the right to pursue her dreams regardless of the obstacles in her path.

These women remind us that our challenges, no matter how daunting, can be the very fuel that propels us forward. Their stories inspire us to stand tall, to fight for what we believe in, and to transform adversity into strength.

Creating Your Dream Team: Building a Supportive Community

No journey is truly complete without the support of a community that uplifts, motivates, and challenges you to grow. The wellness journey is inherently personal, but it flourishes best when shared with others who understand your struggles and celebrate your victories.

Finding Your Tribe

Surround yourself with people who inspire you—friends, family, mentors, or a community of like-minded women who are equally passionate about health and self-improvement. Whether you join a local fitness class, sign up for a yoga workshop, or become part of an online community, having a support network can make all the difference. It’s in these connections that you’ll find encouragement on the tough days, a push to keep going when self-doubt creeps in, and shared wisdom from those who have walked the path before you.

The Role of a Coach and Mentor

Just as a skilled coach guides athletes to their peak performance, having a mentor can help you navigate the complexities of your wellness journey. Consider seeking guidance from someone who embodies the values you aspire to—someone who has faced challenges, overcome them, and emerged stronger. I like to think of myself as the woman version of David Goggins—a relentless motivator who believes in the power of hard work, yet with a nurturing heart that understands the importance of self-care and compassion. It’s about blending strength with tenderness, grit with grace.

Community as a Catalyst for Change

When we share our experiences—our triumphs and our struggles—we not only empower ourselves but also create ripples of inspiration that extend far beyond our individual lives. Your story might be the spark that ignites someone else’s journey. By building a supportive community, you contribute to a collective movement that leaves this world a better, brighter place.

Staying Committed: The Beauty of Constant Exploration

One of the most exhilarating aspects of the wellness journey is the freedom to explore. Life is not static, and neither is your path to health and happiness. There will be days when your routine feels like home and days when you crave a fresh perspective. That’s perfectly okay. The secret lies in staying open to change, experimenting with new ideas, and trusting your intuition.

Embracing Change as a Catalyst for Growth

Imagine your wellness journey as a grand tapestry—each thread representing a new experience, a lesson learned, or a challenge overcome. When one approach stops working, you don’t get discouraged; you simply seek out the next vibrant thread to weave into your story. It might be a new exercise, a novel recipe, or a different kind of meditation practice. The key is to remain curious, keep experimenting, and allow your journey to evolve naturally.

Learning to Pivot Gracefully

There will be times when a particular program or approach might not serve you as well as it once did. Instead of viewing these moments as failures, see them as opportunities to pivot. Give it one last chance, or gracefully move on to something new. This flexibility is essential—not only does it prevent burnout, but it also allows you to continuously fine-tune your routine to what truly nourishes your body and soul.

Celebrating Every Milestone

Every step forward is a victory worth celebrating. Whether you’ve mastered a challenging yoga pose, learned a new technique in jiujitsu, or cooked a nutritious meal that felt like a work of art, take a moment to acknowledge your progress. Celebrate these milestones, for they are the building blocks of a life well-lived. And when you look back, you’ll see that each small win has contributed to a journey of profound transformation.

The Magic of Music and Inspirational Quotes

A key ingredient in staying motivated is finding the right soundtrack to your life. Music has the power to uplift your spirit, energize your workouts, and even soothe your soul after a long day. Incorporate songs that speak to your inner warrior and your gentle spirit alike.

Uplifting Songs to Energize Your Day

  • “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten: A powerful anthem that reminds you of your inner strength and resilience.

  • “Roar” by Katy Perry: This song’s dynamic energy and empowering lyrics will get you fired up for any challenge.

  • “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield: Embrace the open canvas of your life with this upbeat, liberating track.

  • “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson: Celebrate your ability to grow stronger through every challenge.

Words to Live By

In addition to music, let the wisdom of inspiring quotes be your daily mantra. One of my favorite quotes is by Oprah Winfrey:

“Turn your wounds into wisdom.”
These words encapsulate the essence of transforming every setback into a stepping stone toward growth and fulfillment.

Empowerment Through Historical Stories

Throughout history, countless women have faced insurmountable challenges only to emerge as beacons of strength and resilience. Their legacies serve as living proof that every obstacle is an opportunity to redefine what’s possible.

A Glimpse into the Past

  • Harriet Tubman: Despite the brutal realities of slavery, Tubman’s unwavering commitment to freedom saved hundreds. Her courage reminds us that the path to liberation—both personal and collective—is paved with sacrifices and fierce determination.

  • Rosa Parks: With quiet yet profound defiance, Parks challenged an unjust system and ignited a movement for civil rights. Her story is a testament to the power of standing up for what you believe in, even when the odds seem insurmountable.

  • Malala Yousafzai: In a world that tried to silence her, Malala transformed her pain into a global call for education and empowerment. Her journey inspires every woman to believe that her voice matters and that she can effect change, no matter how daunting the challenge.

These historical icons are more than just names in a textbook—they are living inspirations. Their stories echo in every challenge we face, encouraging us to persist, to adapt, and to ultimately triumph over adversity.

Creating a Vision for Your Future

Imagine a life where every day is a celebration of your strength, your resilience, and your boundless potential. This is the future you can create—a life where you are the architect of your destiny, crafting a legacy that uplifts not only yourself but every woman who crosses your path.

Visualize Your Success

Take a moment to visualize your ideal day. Perhaps it begins with an early morning yoga session as the sun gently rises, followed by a hearty breakfast of nutrient-packed fruits and whole grains. The day unfolds with moments of laughter, productive work, and spontaneous adventures—a blend of discipline and joy that fuels your ambition. In the evening, you might share your experiences with a community of like-minded women, each story a thread in the rich tapestry of your collective journey.

What Are the Chakras and Why Do They Matter?

Have you ever caught yourself stuttering, tripping on your own foot, or forgetting your keys while holding them in your hand? Those little mishaps might seem like just another “oops” moment, but they can also be signs that your energy is out of alignment. Your body and mind are deeply interconnected, and when your energy isn’t flowing freely, it can manifest in everything from mental fog to physical clumsiness.

Chakras are the energy centers in your body that influence everything—from how you feel emotionally to how strong and resilient you are physically. When they are balanced and open, life feels like it flows effortlessly. But when they are blocked? You might feel weighed down, frustrated, uninspired, or even physically sluggish.

In this blog, we’re going to explore what chakras really are, why they matter, and how energy alignment is connected to your sense of purpose, gratitude, and movement. And no—this isn’t witchcraft. It’s an ancient system of understanding the body’s natural energy flow, much like acupuncture or traditional Chinese medicine. You don’t have to be spiritual to benefit from it; you just have to be open to listening to your body.

Understanding the Chakras

The word "chakra" means "wheel" in Sanskrit, and these energy centers act as spinning vortexes of energy that correspond to different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. There are seven main chakras, each located along the spine and associated with specific colors, elements, organs, and emotions.

The Seven Chakras and Their Significance

  1. Root Chakra (Muladhara) – Red

    • Located at the base of the spine

    • Governs stability, security, and survival instincts

    • Blockage symptoms: Feeling ungrounded, anxious, or insecure

    • Alignment practices: Grounding yoga poses like Mountain Pose and Warrior I; eating root vegetables like beets and carrots

  2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) – Orange

    • Located in the lower abdomen

    • Governs creativity, sensuality, and emotions

    • Blockage symptoms: Feeling uninspired, disconnected, or having trouble enjoying life’s pleasures

    • Alignment practices: Hip-opening yoga poses like Pigeon Pose and Butterfly Pose; eating oranges, mangos, and nuts

  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura) – Yellow

    • Located in the stomach area

    • Governs confidence, personal power, and motivation

    • Blockage symptoms: Low self-esteem, lack of willpower, digestive issues

    • Alignment practices: Core-strengthening poses like Boat Pose and Plank; eating bananas, turmeric, and yellow peppers

  4. Heart Chakra (Anahata) – Green

    • Located in the center of the chest

    • Governs love, compassion, and connection

    • Blockage symptoms: Feeling closed off, jealous, or having difficulty expressing love

    • Alignment practices: Heart-opening poses like Camel Pose and Cobra Pose; eating leafy greens, avocados, and green apples

  5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) – Blue

    • Located at the throat

    • Governs communication and self-expression

    • Blockage symptoms: Fear of speaking up, feeling unheard, sore throat issues

    • Alignment practices: Neck stretches and Fish Pose; drinking herbal teas and eating blueberries

  6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) – Indigo

    • Located between the eyebrows

    • Governs intuition and perception

    • Blockage symptoms: Feeling disconnected from your intuition, headaches, poor focus

    • Alignment practices: Meditation, Child’s Pose, and using essential oils like lavender; eating dark berries and grapes

  7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) – Violet or White

    • Located at the top of the head

    • Governs spiritual connection and enlightenment

    • Blockage symptoms: Feeling lost, disconnected from life’s purpose, or experiencing depression

    • Alignment practices: Meditation, Savasana (Corpse Pose); fasting or eating high-vibration foods like coconut and herbal teas

Why Energy Alignment Matters

When your chakras are aligned, you feel lighter, stronger, and more in tune with yourself. Your mind is clearer, your body moves with more ease, and your emotions become more balanced. Have you ever had a moment where everything just “clicks”? That’s what an aligned energy system feels like—clarity, purpose, and ease.

It’s not just about feeling good; it’s about reclaiming your power. Imagine carrying a heavy backpack all day and then suddenly taking it off. That’s the kind of relief you feel when your chakras are open and balanced.

Movement, Gratitude, and Journaling: The Ultimate Trio

  • Movement: Yoga, dance, or even simple stretches can help release stuck energy in the body. Every time you move with intention, you’re allowing energy to flow freely, keeping your chakras from becoming stagnant.

  • Gratitude: Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s wrong to what’s right. It’s a powerful tool that helps open the heart chakra and raise your overall vibrational energy.

  • Journaling: Writing down your thoughts, goals, or emotions helps you process and release what’s weighing you down. It creates clarity, which supports the third eye chakra, and it allows you to express freely, keeping the throat chakra open.

Is This Witchcraft? Nope, It’s Science and Awareness

Chakras might sound mystical, but they align closely with how our nervous system and endocrine system function. Each chakra corresponds to a gland or major organ in the body, and keeping them in balance means optimizing your overall health.

Many scientific studies show that practices like yoga, meditation, and mindful movement improve mental health, reduce stress, and increase overall well-being. The chakras are simply a way to understand and work with these benefits in a more structured way.

Call to Action: Align Your Chakras, Align Your Life

The journey to balancing your chakras is a practice, not a one-time fix. Start small—pick one chakra and focus on opening it through movement, food, and mindfulness. Try:

  • A short gratitude journal entry each morning

  • 10 minutes of yoga focusing on one chakra

  • Mindful breathing to release tension

Energy alignment isn’t about perfection; it’s about awareness. The more you pay attention to your energy, the more control you have over your life. And who doesn’t want to feel more powerful, free, and courageous?

So, what’s the first chakra you’re going to work on? Drop a comment below and let’s elevate together!

The Healthy Lifestyle Has No End Date: Shaping a Stronger You

There’s no final destination when it comes to health and fitness. It’s not a finish line you cross, get your medal, and go back to old habits. A healthy lifestyle is an ongoing journey of growth—physically, mentally, and even spiritually. We don’t do it because we’re obsessed with looking a certain way or chasing fleeting goals. We do it because evolving is our birthright, and to honor that, we must constantly seek ways to improve.

Think about it: have you ever learned a new skill and felt that spark of excitement? Maybe you finally nailed a yoga pose that once seemed impossible, or executed a Jiu-Jitsu technique smoothly for the first time. That feeling of progress is priceless, and it’s what keeps us coming back. But progress doesn’t happen by accident—it happens through discipline, consistency, and a strong foundation.

The Power of the Basics

In Jiu-Jitsu, we call it the basics. The fundamental movements—shrimping, bridging, guard passing—are what make all the flashy techniques possible. Without a solid foundation, everything else falls apart. The same applies to any fitness journey.

How do you build strength? Reps. How do you improve flexibility? Reps. How do you gain endurance? Reps.

It’s the work you put in every day that makes the difference in your body and mind. I once read a quote that stuck with me: "You can’t pay someone to do the pushups for you." You have to show up, put in the effort, and do the work yourself.

That’s why I created my 12-week program—to give you the roadmap. I know firsthand how valuable it is to have structure. I’ve bought several workout programs throughout my journey, and each one helped me level up. With a guide, fitness becomes more fun, more effective, and, most importantly, sustainable.

The Importance of Discipline and Consistency

Motivation is fleeting. Some days, you’ll wake up fired up to work out, and other days, the couch will call your name. That’s where discipline steps in. Discipline means showing up when you don’t feel like it. It means keeping the promise you made to yourself, even when no one is watching.

Consistency is what turns discipline into a lifestyle. You don’t need to be extreme; you just need to be consistent. Imagine how much progress you’ll make if you simply commit to small, daily efforts. One workout won’t change your body, but 12 weeks of dedication? That’s where transformation happens.

People say, "If you have a goal but don’t make a plan, you plan to fail." That’s exactly why I designed this program—not only to help you generate accountability and consistency but to remove the guesswork so you can focus on showing up. No excuses. No second-guessing. Just results.

A Historical Example of Resilience: Hellen Keller

If we’re talking about discipline and consistency, let’s take a moment to appreciate the incredible journey of Helen Keller. Born in 1880, she lost both her sight and hearing at just 19 months old. Imagine that—a world of total darkness and silence. She could have easily given up, but instead, she became one of the most inspiring figures in history.

With the help of her teacher, Anne Sullivan, she learned to communicate through touch, eventually mastering reading, writing, and even speaking. She went on to graduate from Radcliffe College, becoming the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. Helen Keller didn’t let obstacles define her—she crushed them with discipline, persistence, and an unbreakable spirit.

Her story reminds us that limitations are often self-imposed. Whether in fitness, Jiu-Jitsu, or life, the key to success isn’t talent or luck—it’s showing up and putting in the work.

Your Roadmap to Success

I built this 12-week program with one goal in mind: to help you build the foundation you need for a lifelong, healthy lifestyle. Here’s what you’ll get:

A Structured Plan – No more guessing. Follow the roadmap, and results will follow.

Video Demonstrations – Learn proper form and technique for each movement.

Illustrations & Guides – Visual cues to help you execute each exercise correctly.

Accountability & Discipline – Develop the habits that will keep you progressing long after the 12 weeks are over.

This program is for you if you’re just getting started and want a strong foundation. And if you’re already experienced? It will add to your arsenal, making you stronger, more mobile, and more confident in your movement.

The Only Thing Left to Do: Take Action

The only thing standing between you and your strongest self is action. No one can do this for you, but you don’t have to do it alone. This program gives you everything you need to take control of your health and fitness—so all that’s left is for you to show up.

Are you ready to commit to yourself? To build a foundation that will support you for a lifetime? Then let’s get started. Your strongest self is waiting.

Sign up for the 12-week program today. No more excuses—just results.

The Psychology of Letting Go: Why Holding On Can Hurt Us More

Lauren Eden’s words— “Our bodies heal without permission, but our hearts need consent. Give it.”

— are a reminder that while physical healing happens automatically, emotional healing requires our active participation. But why is it so hard to let go? And what happens when we don’t?

Many of us hold on longer than we should, gripping tightly to past hurts, regrets, fears, and anxieties, as if letting go would somehow erase the significance of what happened. But in reality, holding on can harm us far more than whatever it is we’re afraid to release.

Why Holding On Affects Us Physically

The mind and body are deeply connected, and what we refuse to let go of emotionally manifests in our physical well-being. When we suppress emotions or dwell in a state of worry, our nervous system stays in a heightened state of stress. Over time, this stress can lead to:

  • Overeating or undereating: Using food as comfort or punishment, disrupting our gut health.

  • Overperforming or underperforming: Pushing ourselves too hard to distract from our emotions or withdrawing completely.

  • Headaches and muscle tension: Unresolved stress often leads to migraines and chronic pain.

  • Digestive issues: Anxiety can slow digestion or speed it up, leading to bloating, IBS, or ulcers.

  • Injuries: Overexertion from trying to “outrun” emotional pain can lead to physical breakdown.

Essentially, our bodies react to what our minds won’t release. We end up carrying emotional baggage not just in our thoughts but in our bones, muscles, and stomach.

Healing Takes Time—And More Patience Than Time

If healing were simply about time, then everyone who experiences pain would eventually feel better just by waiting it out. But time alone does not heal wounds—intention does. Healing requires patience, self-compassion, and sometimes, the willingness to try multiple approaches before finding what truly works.

One of the hardest things about healing is that there’s no one-size-fits-all strategy. Some people need movement—running, yoga, or Jiu-Jitsu—to process their emotions. Others need stillness—meditation, therapy, journaling. Some require deep conversations, while others heal best in solitude.

The point is, healing is for everybody, but the same path isn’t for everyone. The key is giving yourself permission to try, to fail, and to keep going. Because on the days it feels impossible, all you have to do is decide:

  • Will I hold on for one more day?

  • Or will I let go for one more day?

The Choice: One More Day of Holding On or Letting Go?

There will be days when holding on feels easier. Days when the pain still feels fresh, when forgiveness seems out of reach, or when the fear of what comes after letting go is too overwhelming. And that’s okay. Healing isn’t linear, and sometimes, we need to sit with our emotions a little longer before we’re ready to release them.

But then there will be days when you realize that holding on is hurting you more than whatever it is you’re afraid to let go of. That’s when the shift happens—not because time has magically erased the pain, but because you’ve chosen to step into healing.

Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting. It doesn’t mean what happened wasn’t real or that your feelings weren’t valid. It simply means you refuse to let pain define the rest of your story.

So, ask yourself:

  • What is holding me back from letting go?

  • What physical symptoms am I experiencing that could be connected to emotional stress?

  • What can I do today—just for today—to create space for healing?

Some days, healing looks like choosing a nourishing meal instead of numbing with junk food. Some days, it’s rolling out your yoga mat even when you don’t feel like it. Some days, it’s journaling your emotions rather than suppressing them.

Healing isn’t always grand or dramatic. Sometimes, it’s the small, quiet choices that lead to the biggest transformations.

Strategies for Letting Go

Letting go is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight, and it’s not about forcing yourself to move on before you’re ready. It’s about creating space for healing and choosing—little by little—to release what no longer serves you.

Here are some powerful strategies to help you let go:

1. Accept That You Cannot Change the Past

One of the hardest things about letting go is the desire to rewrite what happened. We replay scenarios, wishing we had acted differently or that someone else had. But the past is unchangeable. The sooner we accept this truth, the sooner we can shift our energy toward healing.

Try This: Write down what you wish had gone differently. Then, rewrite it with acceptance:
"I cannot change what happened, but I can change how I move forward."

2. Practice Emotional Release Through Movement

Our emotions are stored in the body. This is why physical activity can be a powerful tool for emotional release. Whether it’s yoga, Jiu-Jitsu, running, or even dancing in your living room, movement helps to release stuck energy.

Try This: The next time you feel overwhelmed, move. Shake out your body, go for a walk, or flow through a yoga session. Notice how your emotions shift afterward.

3. Breathe Into the Present Moment

When we hold onto past pain or future anxieties, we forget to be present. Breathwork is a simple yet effective way to ground yourself in the now.

Try This: Close your eyes and take a deep breath in for four counts, hold for four, and exhale for four. Repeat until you feel more centered.

4. Let Yourself Feel (Without Judgment)

Many of us avoid difficult emotions because we think they’ll consume us. But emotions only fester when they are ignored. Give yourself permission to feel without self-judgment.

Try This: Sit in stillness and name what you’re feeling. Say, "I am feeling sad. I am feeling frustrated. I am feeling hopeful." Observe the emotions without labeling them as good or bad.

5. Release Through Writing

Journaling can help process emotions and bring clarity. When thoughts stay in our minds, they become overwhelming. Writing them down makes them tangible—and easier to release.

Try This: Write a letter to what you need to let go of. You don’t have to send it—just the act of writing can be healing.

6. Set Boundaries with Your Own Thoughts

Sometimes, we are our own worst enemy. We replay old conversations, analyze past mistakes, and fuel our own suffering.

Try This: When you catch yourself in a negative thought spiral, say, "I am choosing not to feed this thought right now." Redirect your focus to something uplifting.

7. Forgive—Not for Them, but for You

Forgiveness isn’t about condoning what happened. It’s about freeing yourself from the weight of resentment.

Try This: Picture the person or situation you need to forgive. Imagine handing them a balloon and letting it float away. Say, "I release this for my own peace."

The Power of Small Shifts

A famous quote by Rumi says:

"Try not to resist the changes that come your way. Instead, let life live through you."

Letting go doesn’t mean forcing yourself to move on overnight. It means allowing life to move through you—to feel, to process, to breathe. Even if all you do today is take one deep breath and release just a little of what you’ve been carrying, that’s enough.

Because one day of letting go—just one day—can change everything.

Your Challenge:

For the next 24 hours, choose one small thing to let go of. Maybe it’s a thought, a worry, or the need for control. Write it down, breathe it out, and trust that you are healing, even if it’s just one breath at a time.

Pregnancy-Safe Jiu-Jitsu Training Plan

Pregnancy is a unique journey, and for those of us who love Jiu-Jitsu, the question arises: Can I still train while growing a tiny human? The answer is yes—with modifications and awareness! Training during pregnancy is not about pushing limits but about moving, learning, and staying connected to the mats safely.

In my own journey, I was blessed with the best training partners and coaches who respected the human I was growing inside me. They took it light, adjusted intensity, and allowed me to enjoy drilling and rolling in a way that felt safe. Some partners I had trained with before pregnancy, while others were new. Regardless, the sessions flowed smoothly because the level of awareness of your training partner matters. Your environment and who you train with play a big role in keeping Jiu-Jitsu safe during pregnancy.

I trained until the day I went into labor. In fact, my last Sunday at women’s open mat was the day I went to the hospital to start the process! That’s how much being on the mats meant to me. But if you don’t feel comfortable training, that’s okay too. You can still stay involved by showing up, observing techniques, writing down details, and even recording techniques to review later (Just make sure to actually review them!).

Coming back after birth? Now that was the real challenge! It felt harder than training while pregnant. Pregnancy brain is real, and in my experience, it hit me more post-birth than during pregnancy. But here’s the thing: we, as women, are resilient, strong, and capable of overcoming any challenge. It all comes down to patience, surrendering to the process, and listening to our bodies.

So, if you’re expecting and still want to train, here’s a guide to help you navigate Jiu-Jitsu safely and mindfully.

Trimester-Based Jiu-Jitsu Modifications

First Trimester (Weeks 1-12)

  • Many women continue training normally since the belly isn’t visible yet.

  • Fatigue and nausea can be factors—listen to your body.

  • Reduce intensity in rolling but continue drilling as long as you feel comfortable.

  • Stay hydrated and avoid overheating.

  • Focus on technical stand-ups, shrimping, guard retention drills, and movement-based drilling.

Second Trimester (Weeks 13-27)

  • Balance shifts as the belly grows—avoid moves that put pressure on the abdomen.

  • Positional drilling with trusted partners only is key.

  • Focus on side control escapes, half-guard sweeps, and knee shield retention.

  • No live rolling with unpredictable partners.

  • No closed guard pressure or deep pressure passing on you.

Third Trimester (Weeks 28 - Birth)

  • At this stage, rolling is typically not recommended, but light drilling can continue.

  • If you feel too uncomfortable to train physically, shift to watching and taking notes.

  • Attend class, observe movements, and mentally train by breaking down techniques.

  • Focus on breathing techniques, visualization, and yoga-based mobility.

  • If you still feel good drilling, work on open guard sweeps and technical get-ups.

Safe Jiu-Jitsu Training Adjustments

Solo Drills & Movement

  • Technical stand-ups

  • Hip escapes (shrimping)

  • Bridging drills

  • Guard retention footwork drills

Partner Drilling (With Awareness)

  • Open guard work (no smashing or stacking)

  • Side control escapes

  • Knee shield and half-guard positioning

  • Technical transitions (without pressure)

Yoga & Mobility Work

  • Hip-opening stretches

  • Breathing exercises for relaxation

  • Shoulder and spine mobility

Mental Training & Observation

  • Watching and analyzing rolling sessions

  • Recording and reviewing techniques (don’t forget to watch them later!)

  • Writing down key details from class

  • Visualizing movements to keep your Jiu-Jitsu sharp

What to Avoid

Hard rolling or high-intensity sparring
Closed guard pressure on your belly
Sudden jerky movements or unpredictable partners
Any technique that requires deep core compression (e.g., triangles, guillotines, inversions)
Hard takedowns or situations where falling is a risk

The Importance of Your Training Partners

One of the biggest reasons I felt comfortable training while pregnant was because of who I trained with. Having trusted, aware, and supportive partners made all the difference. If you choose to keep training, make sure your partners:

  • Understand you’re pregnant and respect your boundaries.

  • Train smoothly and with controlled movement.

  • Are aware enough to adjust pressure and intensity.

Remember, your training environment matters. Surround yourself with people who support and uplift you, both on and off the mats.

Coming Back After Birth: The Real Challenge

Many women assume the hardest part is training while pregnant. But in reality, coming back postpartum can be even more difficult. Your body feels different, your endurance is low, and that pregnancy brain is real.

  • Be patient with yourself. Your strength and technique will come back.

  • Focus on mobility, flexibility, and controlled movements.

  • If something feels off or painful, modify or take a break.

  • Don’t compare your comeback to anyone else’s journey.

The key is to trust the process and surrender to the changes. You are strong. You are capable. And you will overcome.

Final Thoughts: We Are Women, We Are Warriors

Pregnancy doesn’t mean stopping. It means adapting. If you want to train, you can—just listen to your body and train smart. If you need to step back, that’s okay too. Staying connected to Jiu-Jitsu, whether through drilling, watching, or taking notes, will keep your journey going.

At the end of the day, we are warriors. We face challenges, we overcome them, and we emerge stronger. Whether you’re training through pregnancy or making a comeback, know this:

👉 You are powerful.
👉 You are resilient.
👉 You are capable of handling anything.

So be patient, trust your body, and keep moving forward. Oss. 💪

Yoga vs. Stretching: Which One Is Right for You?

We’ve all been there—waking up stiff in the morning, feeling tight after a workout, or just needing to loosen up before a long day. Maybe you quickly reach for a simple stretch before heading out the door, and honestly, sometimes that’s all you need. But if you’re looking for a way to maximize your time and truly enhance your well-being, yoga is the way to go.

While stretching and yoga both improve flexibility and mobility, yoga offers so much more. It’s not just about elongating muscles—it’s about connection. Connection to yourself, your breath, and the present moment. And no, yoga is not a religion. It’s a practice, a discipline, a way to bring harmony between body and mind. And believe it or not, it can even help you accept things like traffic jams a little better.

Why Yoga Wins Over Stretching

Stretching is great—it lengthens muscles, reduces stiffness, and preps the body for movement. However, stretching is typically a passive action. It’s often done quickly, without much thought, just to get the job done. Yoga, on the other hand, brings mindfulness into the movement. It’s not just about making space in the muscles, but making space in the mind.

Yoga works deeper than stretching because:

  • It connects breath with movement – Instead of mindlessly holding a stretch, yoga encourages you to breathe deeply through each pose, making it a moving meditation.

  • It strengthens while lengthening – Many yoga postures require engagement of muscles, not just passive stretching, leading to better overall stability.

  • It helps with mental clarity – Ever feel like your mind is racing with endless to-do lists? Yoga brings you back to the present moment and helps quiet that mental noise.

  • It improves mobility – Stretching can increase flexibility, but yoga improves both flexibility and mobility, which means you move more freely and efficiently.

  • It supports nervous system health – Deep breathing and mindful movement activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the body’s rest-and-digest mode), reducing stress and anxiety.

As my teacher in Bali always said, “Your breath is your power.” I carry that lesson with me every day, and I share it with you in hopes that you, too, will find the beauty of connecting with yourself.

Finding Time for Yourself

At some point in your life, you have connected with yourself without holding back. Maybe it was as a child, running through the grass without a care in the world. But as we grow older, responsibilities pile up, and challenges can weigh us down. We convince ourselves that there’s no time for self-care, when in reality, we just need to put in a little effort.

I’m not saying this because my yoga practice is perfect. Trust me, I have to battle my own thoughts to get on my mat. And some days, I don’t. But that’s the beauty of yoga—it meets you where you are. There will be days when you build momentum and feel like everything is flowing. Then, life gets busy, and you tell yourself you can skip a day. A day turns into a week, a month, and before you know it, you feel disconnected again. That’s okay. Yoga is always there for you.

Even if you’re short on time, practicing yoga doesn’t have to mean an hour-long class. It could be as simple as one pose a day or a light breathing exercise.

A Simple Breath Exercise for Anxiety Relief

If you ever feel overwhelmed, anxious, or even just mentally cluttered, try this simple breathing technique:

Box Breathing:

  1. Inhale through your nose for a count of 4.

  2. Hold your breath for a count of 4.

  3. Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of 4.

  4. Hold the exhale for a count of 4.

  5. Repeat for a few rounds, allowing your breath to become smoother and your mind to settle.

This technique is great for calming the nervous system and bringing you back into the present moment. Whether you’re about to give a presentation at work, dealing with an uncooperative child, or just feeling off, your breath is your greatest tool.

Yoga for Anxiety and Athletic Performance

Yoga isn’t just for relaxation—it can be a game-changer for athletes and professionals alike. Here’s how:

  • For athletes: Yoga enhances flexibility, balance, and endurance. It also aids in injury prevention by strengthening stabilizer muscles.

  • For professionals: Yoga helps with focus and stress management, making it easier to navigate high-pressure situations.

  • For parents: Yoga teaches patience, acceptance, and the ability to stay present even when life gets chaotic.

One of the biggest lessons yoga has taught me is to accept the things I cannot change. The only thing we can truly control is our own breath. Have you ever caught yourself holding your breath without realizing it? Then, when you start breathing deeply again, you suddenly feel a little lighter? That’s because oxygen is life. A lack of oxygen can even cause headaches, tension, and stress.

Movement and Breath Combined: The Ultimate Stress Reliever

Pairing breath with movement can be even more powerful. Here are two simple yoga sequences to try:

  1. Bird Dog Pose Flow:

    • Start in a tabletop position (on hands and knees).

    • Extend your right arm and left leg, engaging your core.

    • Exhale, bringing your elbow and knee together under your body.

    • Repeat on the other side. This strengthens your core while enhancing balance.

  2. Child’s Pose to Cat-Cow:

    • Begin in Child’s Pose (knees wide, arms extended forward, forehead resting on the mat).

    • Inhale as you rise into a hands-and-knees position.

    • Exhale into Cat Pose (rounding your spine, tucking your chin).

    • Inhale into Cow Pose (arching your back, lifting your head and tailbone).

    • Repeat this gentle flow for a few rounds, feeling the tension melt away.

These movements act as an internal massage, improving circulation and reducing stress.

Just Breathe

If you take one thing from this, let it be this: Yoga is not about perfection. It’s about showing up for yourself.

Start small. One deep breath. One mindful movement. One moment of stillness.

Your breath is your power, and you deserve to feel connected, strong, and at ease in your own body. So, the next time life feels overwhelming, roll out your mat—or simply close your eyes and take a deep breath.

You’ve got this.

Understanding What Hurts: When to Push Through and When to Rest

Life, just like training, is a constant balance of knowing when to grind and when to nurture. We glorify the hustle the relentless push to be stronger, faster, and tougher. But what about the times when our bodies whisper (or scream) that they need a break? What about the moments when our hearts are heavy, and every step feels like wading through quicksand?

The real challenge isn’t just in pushing through it’s in knowing when to push and when to pause. It’s in being brutally honest with ourselves. Because the problem isn’t resting. The problem is lying to ourselves about why we are or aren’t taking action.

The Art of Listening to Pain

Pain isn’t the enemy. Pain is communication.

  • Physical pain tells us when something isn’t right whether it’s a muscle strain, an injury, or simply exhaustion.

  • Emotional pain is just as real. It manifests as stress, burnout, or the creeping feeling of being disconnected from ourselves.

Both demand attention. Both require a decision: Do we rest, or do we push?

The Motherly Approach: Nurturing Ourselves Like a Newborn

When we’re injured, we often treat ourselves like an overworked employee ”You’re fine, keep going. But what if, instead, we treated ourselves like a newborn baby?

Think about how a mother cares for her child:

  • She listens to every cry, responding with comfort and care.

  • She doesn’t push the baby to crawl before its little muscles are ready.

  • She feeds, soothes, and encourages, allowing the baby to develop at the right pace.

Now, ask yourself: When was the last time you treated yourself with that kind of gentleness?

There is wisdom in self-compassion. Your body is your home, your vessel, the only one you get. Treat it with the patience and love you would give a baby learning to walk.

The Minds Sabotage: When We Make Excuses

But there’s another side to this. Sometimes, what we call “Listening to our bodies” is actually listening to our excuses. The mind can be a trickster, whispering doubts, making problems seem bigger than they are.

Example: It’s been two months since I gave birth. Getting to class feels impossible.

  • My body is still recovering.

  • I’m exhausted.

  • Who will watch the baby?

  • I’ll start next week.

Every single reason is valid. But is it the full truth?

  • Is my body truly not ready, or am I just scared of feeling weak?

  • Am I actually too exhausted, or would movement give me more energy?

  • Is there a real obstacle, or am I creating one out of fear?

Sometimes, the hardest part isn’t the workout itself it’s getting in the car and showing up.

How to Be Honest With Yourself

Since we can’t always trust our thoughts, we need an honest system to check ourselves:

1. Ask Yourself: Is This Pain or Discomfort?

  • Pain = a sharp or persistent feeling that worsens. It means STOP.

  • Discomfort = soreness, fatigue, or mental resistance. It means PUSH.

2. The 10-Minute Rule

If you’re not sure whether to push or rest, give yourself 10 minutes.

  • Start the workout.

  • If after 10 minutes you still feel awful, stop.

  • Most of the time, once you begin, the excuses fade.

3. Would I Say This to a Friend?

Imagine a friend in your exact position. Would you tell her:

  • You’re just making excuses.

  • You need to rest.

Be as kind, but as honest, with yourself as you would be with her.

4. Set a Minimum Bar

Instead of thinking in extremes (go hard or do nothing), set a bare minimum standard:

  • If I can’t do an hour, can I do 10 minutes?

  • If I can’t do jiu-jitsu, can I do yoga at home?

The Power of Pushing Through

Pushing through isn’t about ignoring pain it’s about choosing discipline over comfort.

The days when we don’t feel like moving, when everything inside says just stay home, those are the days that shape us.

Wilma Rudolph: Running Past Pain

Born premature, Wilma Rudolph battled polio as a child. Doctors told her she might never walk again. Not only did she walk she became the fastest woman in the world, winning three Olympic gold medals in track. She knew the difference between real limitations and mental ones.

“The triumph can’t be had without the struggle.“ -Wilma Rudolph

When you choose to push, you build resilience. Every time you override the voice of doubt, you train your mind to be tougher, sharper, and stronger.

The Power of Rest

Resting is not quitting. Resting is refueling.

In the fitness world, rest is when muscle fibers rebuild and become stronger. In life, rest is when you regain clarity, creativity, and energy.

But here’s the trick: Resting doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means your radar is connected properly.

Rest is a Skill, Not a Weakness

It takes wisdom to say:

  • I need a break, and that’s okay.

  • Resting today means I’ll come back stronger tomorrow.

Serena Williams: Knowing When to Step Back

Serena Williams, one of the greatest athletes of all time, takes off-seasons to recover. She doesn’t grind 24/7. She allows herself to rest strategically.

“I always believe I can beat the best, achieve the best. I always see myself in the top position.“ -Serena Williams

She doesn’t let rest become avoidance. Instead, she uses it to sharpen her focus.

Resting Means You’re Playing the Long Game

Pushing when you need to rest leads to burnout, injury, and breakdown. But resting when needed? That leads to longevity, mastery, and peak performance.

The Real Problem: Trusting Yourself

At the end of the day, knowing when to push and when to rest comes down to trusting yourself.

  • If you say you’ll train tomorrow, keep that promise.

  • If your body is screaming for a break, give it one without guilt.

  • If you don’t know what to do, try first, then decide.

Discipline is not just about pushing. It’s about having the strength to pause when necessary and the courage to move forward when fear tries to hold you back.

Your ☎️Call to Action

Next time you hesitate whether it’s about a workout, a tough conversation, or taking a step towards your goals ask yourself:

Am I in real pain, or am I just uncomfortable?

Then, decide. Rest when needed. Push when necessary. And always, be honest with yourself.

Whether you’re a Kanye fan or not most will admit this song can do a trick.

Why? Because sometimes, you just need that beat to remind you that every hardship is making you tougher.

The Beauty of an All-Women’s Class: Strength, Support, and Sisterhood

“There’s a time and place for everything.”

Some lessons can only be learned through challenge, and sometimes, training with men provides that extra push. It forces adaptation, builds resilience, and mimics real-world scenarios. But that’s s a conversation for another day.

Today, let’s talk about the power of women training with women.

In a world where we are often encouraged to be strong in solitude, there’s something undeniably powerful about coming together. Small classes, large classes it doesn’t matter. The right group of women will bring out a version of you that you didn’t even know was there.

The key is finding your vibe. A space where you feel encouraged, respected, and genuinely excited to learn. Where you walk in knowing that today, you’ll leave stronger than you arrived.

Where do you feel the most growth? Where do you feel valued? These are not trivial questions.

They matter because the answers will determine:

•Your commitment -If you love where you train, you’ll show up.

•Your consistency -When you feel supported, you’ll keep coming back.

•Your results -Growth happens where passion and perseverance meet.

Yes, a large part of success comes down to discipline, but don’t underestimate environment. The right space can make the difference between progress and burnout, between doubting yourself and pushing past your limits.

Jiu-Jitsu Saved My Life

I had been practicing Jiu-Jitsu for a while, enjoying the challenge, the skill-building, and the mental clarity it provided. But I never realized just how much it mattered, how much it could actually save a life until one night.

I was seven months pregnant when my “person” at the time decided to choke me and tackle me to the ground.

I had no warning, no way to prepare, just raw instinct and training kicking in.

The moment I felt his hands around my neck, I knew I couldn’t panic. I couldn’t afford to freeze. My body remembered what to do before my mind could even process what was happening.

  • I tucked my chin, preventing the choke from cutting off my air.

  • I created space using frames, just like in Jiu-Jitsu.

  • I used leverage not strength to shift and get out.

Everything I had learned in class, all the hours of drilling techniques, suddenly had real-world consequences. This wasn’t just about sparring on the mats. This was life or death and because of Jiu-Jitsu, I survived.

That night changed everything.

I had been teaching yoga for over five years, but after that night, I knew I had to do more. Sharing Jiu-Jitsu became a mission.

It’s not just self-defense. It’s not just exercise.

It’s freedom.

It’s confidence.

It’s survival.

Why Women Training with Women is a Game-Changer

I’ve had the privilege of training in all-women’s Jiu-Jitsu classes. To say it’s been life-changing is an understatement.

It’s not just about technique or fitness it’s about the energy in the room. It’s about walking into a space where every woman understands the struggle, the doubts, the hesitation and chooses to lift each other up rather than tear each other down.

Here’s why training in an all-women’s class is an experience like no other:

1. Comfort Breeds Confidence

There’s something deeply reassuring about stepping onto the mats and knowing that the people around you get it.

  • They understand how intimidating it can be to start something new.

  • They understand the frustration of feeling behind or not strong enough.

  • They understand the mental blocks that sometimes hold us back more than the physical ones.

Training with women eliminates a lot of the unnecessary pressure. You’re not worried about being too weak, too slow, or too unfamiliar with the sport. Instead, you’re focused on learning, growing, and getting better without feeling like you need to prove yourself to anyone.

2. We Get Stronger Together

Let’s be real: The world constantly tells women to compete against each other. Whether it’s in careers, relationships, or even personal goals, we’re taught to compare instead of collaborate.

But on the mats? That mindset disappears.

  • When one woman lands a technique, we all celebrate.

  • When someone struggles, we help, not judge.

  • When the training gets tough, we remind each other that we didn’t wake up to be weak.

As Myra likes to say, “We didn’t wake up to be weak ladies”. That phrase has stayed with me in every tough session, in every moment when I wanted to quit. It’s s a reminder that we are more capable than we think.

3. Jiu-Jitsu is Overcoming Challenges

Jiu-Jitsu, yoga, and personal training aren’t just about physical strength they’re about mental strength, too.

Every class is a challenge. Every round is a puzzle to solve. Every technique you learn builds confidence in ways you never expected.

  • You start trusting your instincts more.

  • You stop second-guessing yourself.

  • You realize that your body is stronger than your doubts.

One day, you hesitate before going for a submission. The next, you commit without thinking. That’s what growth looks like.

Jiu-Jitsu isn’t just about self defense it’s about resilience. Overcoming obstacles. And, as I learned firsthand, it can also be a lifesaver.

Giving Back: Filling the Cups of Others

I’ve had my cup filled by incredible women in the Jiu-Jitsu and yoga communities. Now, it’s my turn to do the same.

That’s why I’m beyond excited to teach all-women’s yoga, Jiu-Jitsu, and personal training at De Andas Brothers Boxing Gym.

It’s not just about fitness. It’s about creating a space where women can:

  • Unleash their inner warrior

  • Let go of stress and self-doubt

  • Learn self-defense and self-discipline

  • Build unshakable confidence

And let’s be honest now that I’m teaching, I have even less of an excuse to skip my own training!

To the Women Reading This: Come Train With Us!

If you’ve been thinking about trying Jiu-Jitsu, yoga, or personal training but have been hesitant, this is your sign.

You don’t need to be in shape.

You don’t need to be flexible.

You don’t need to be strong.

You just need to show up. The rest? We’ll figure it out together.

I invite you to join me at De Andas Brothers Boxing Gym and experience the magic of an all-women’s s class. Come move, train, and find the version of yourself that refuses to quit.

Because trust me she’s in there.

With Gratitude: A Thank You to My Professors

Before I end this, I need to take a moment to acknowledge the people who have shaped me my professors, my mentors, my fire-starters.

Your voices echo in my mind when I doubt myself.

Your belief in me fuels my belief in my goals.

Your discipline, your strength, and your wisdom continue to inspire me every time I step on the mats.

I am who I am today because of the people who have poured their energy into me. Thank you.

And to every woman reading this I hope to see you on the mats soon. Let’s train, grow, and lift each other up. The world is waiting to see what were capable of.

See you at De Andas Brothers Boxing Gym. Let’s go unleash our inner warriors.

Yoga's Ethical Practice (Yamas) Ahimsa

To curb violence what is most needed is freedom from fear. B.K.S. Iyerngar, Light on Yoga

Dear friend, I hope you find yourself in good health and happy spirits. I have been meaning to share with you what was written a week ago. I have titled this blog “ Yoga's Ethical Practice”. The purpose is to support your awareness throughout your yoga practice. If you’re new to yoga or even if you simply need a light review. This is 1 of 10 topics we will be discussing.

1st: What does ethic mean? Google says its moral principles.

Ethics for Ywefit is a compass that helps you know what direction to take when the winds rattle your calm, confidence or discipline (Hence, moral principles).

2nd: What is Yama? Yama is sanskirt for restraints. nonviolence. Yamas are explained in 5 restraints. Nonviolence, thruthfulness, non-stealing, non-excess, non-possesiveness.

AHIMSA (Non-violence)

Non-Violence is the posture you use when entering a relationship, your day or your sport. This posture is not exalted in power and you don’t compromise what’s authentic to you. Notice what happens when your posture is off. With the wrong posture we can create problems throughout our bodies that can be prevented (Upper and lower back, hip pain).

In eastern thought, non-violence is so valued that it stands as the very core and foundation of all yoga philosophy and practice. -Debora Adele

Notice is says core . In our bodies our core is responsible for most our posture. This is why its important to have a strong core. A solid foundation. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just as long as you're aware. You’re on the right track, stay with it. stay with this awareness until it becomes part of you. Stay with it until the posture is established and consistently helping instead of adding to pain.

Did I lose you? Non-violence, core, consistency. What does this have to do with non violence? Hold on a second . This is where it all comes together.

Our capacity to be nonviolent depends on our proactive practice of courage , balance, self-love and compassion for others.

Whether its on your day to day in your sport if you face it with the wrong posture, it simply means

  1. Fear is trying to replace courage ( Remedy : Be scared and do it anyway)

  2. Not listening to the inner voice to be balanced. Stopping us from our best authentic self. (Remedy: Stay aware of the inner voice to be balanced. !0minute meditation daily. Minimum 3 days a week consistently.)

When we are in balance we automatically live in nonviolence.
— Deborah Adele

You can win. You can win over your thoughts, circumstances, or your opponent. Without having to be violent to yourself. Sure, it may come out as violent to another person who is not as grounded, aware and balanced as you. But that’s another story for another day.

3. Self love (Remedy: Practice gratitude being completely honest with the self and asking “What do I need in this moment. Shower? Food? Hug? Love? Allowing yourself to receive it and welcome it. The biggest way to complete self love is to trust that each moment is your moment. Stay light hearted with yourself. Practice forgiveness of the self.)

Perfect love cast out fear.

4. Compassion

Nonviolence asks us to trust other peoples journey and love and support others to their highest image of themselves not our highest image of them. Honoring where they are in their journey.

My dear friend, wherever you are in your journey may you find peace and love in your heart in everything you do. May you have the patience to endure the dark and cold moments this life brings to us. May you stay open for all the things you have been wishing and needing. Trust suffering. Trust the challenge. You can and you will overcome without having to be violent with yourself. You can and you will.

There is nothing to fix or save in another; there is only the gift of listening.

With this, my prayer is that youre able to see how ahimsa nonviolence can be an addition to your awesome. Lets choose trust over worry. God’s timing is perfect. Now that you are aware. What posture will you have for your next encounter?

Love or worry?

Choose love!

Choose love and it will all work out.

  • Love for the self.

  • Love for the world around you.

  • Connect to your true authentic self.

What are your likes? What are your dislikes?

Do you prefer hot or cold? The beach or the lake?

You know what it’s like to win. You know what it’s like to loose.

Which efforts are you willing to give? What outcomes are you striving for?

Are you okay with loosing and staying the same?

Or are you willing to change your whole world to get what you always wanted?

There’s nothing scarier than living a life not knowing what you want. But if there is, it’s settling for what you know, you don’t.

This is where Love for the self comes in.

Once you raise your vibration and become aware that everything is connected events and circumstances will have almost no effect on you.

First we must be ignorant in oder to dive deep and understand with depth. Face yourself with love.

But how will you know of the ignorance you hold if you don’t elevate and accept reality for what it is?

When you love yourself you’ll be able to say “Yes its cold. Yes its dark. I’ll get me the perfect sweater. I am in charge of turning on that light.”

Truth is, its also scary when you know what you want. But it’s different. Not that type of fear that keeps you in bed and paralyzes you. The type to keep you up late and wakes you up early because well, now you know, why procrastinate on it?

This is where Love for the world around you comes in.

This time, know what you want.

If letting go feels like you’re hurting someone. Please know that they haven’t become aware of what you’re on your way of mastering. Self realization. Self-respect. Self-worth.

You can love from far away. That’s ok. They’re not in the same vibration as you. That’s ok. I’m sure you cried and begged for them to see what you saw and feel what you felt. Now your mind and heart are at ease. Now your discipline is going to play a huge role. What’s the one thing you do exceptionally well? Whatever it is breathe into that.

Sure, one day someone will add to this but until then? Love life for what it is. Realize that everything that happens is for your best interest and the greater good.

Imagine yourself as an asset in society. Part of those who fight and Zen for their life’s.

Connect to your true authentic self

You’re worth it.

You're worthy of being heard.

You’re worthy of being understood.

You're worthy of love.

You are worthy of freedom.

Yes, you are.

How do you set yourself free?

Never taught her how to heal the pain.

Substances taken to numb the brain.

How many times did she dare and cry?

She climbed and climbed changed her life around.

“She’s so strong” they say. They don’t know about the different storms.

The nightmares she still has since the age of 5.

“Stay hard. Toughen up” they said. Put together not so perfectly.

Let her feel, she wont drown. she can swim. She will live again. Better days are right ahead.

Who does she call to feel a live again?

The almighty King of kings, father father she claims.

She’ll leave it all in the rearview.

Its ok to cry.

Write the song feel the heat. Change the beat.

Feel the vibe, take a seat.

Ashes to ashes dust to dust from the fire she rose.

Cheat or treat?

Only one will set you free.

To learn. To love. To be.

Be free.

What’s the point of life if you can’t be free?

Yes, life is better with someone to love. But what if your feel more of a prisoner than the freedom to be? Be what exactly? Whoever you want to be.

5 years from now it will be about who you chose to be than what you choose to settle for.

The comfort you are walking away from today will make room for the victories to come.

But you gotta sacrifice something. You gotta stay obedient. It’s your responsibility to stay focused. You gotta fight. Fight for your dreams and goals.

K.O everything that stands in your way.

Everything! Habits, thoughts, people. Make room. Stand up for yourself. Those who understand will ride. Those who don’t will kindly step to the side.

That’s ok.

Feel what you feel but you can’t give up. Oh so tempting to sleep. But it feels better to fight through the bullshit stand tf up and say … I did that! Do, that! More of that! Keep fighting. Keep striving.

At the end of the day you gotta be okay with the fight you put up than what others think or feel.

Promoted To Blue

Heavy breathing and a tingly feeling.

Why is it that on promotion day in Brazilian JiuJitsu the adrenaline feels more intense than regular days? And believe when I share that, no days are easy.

Promotion days almost simulate competition days. The energy in the room makes me feel like I can run on water.

What’s going on? Is anybody else in here feel the same? Somewhat the same? It can’t possibly be just me.

The way to calm this is with a laugh, a giggle even a smile will take off some of the tingles. Then, you roll, maybe get smashed and realize “Ok” I know this feeling. Heavy breathing.

By the time you know it, it ends.

How did it go? Was it the results you where looking for?

I feel unsettled. Confused . Overwhelmed with emotions I can’t understand. I feel like I “should” feel happy. So why am I not thrilled jumping off walls? Maybe I feel I “should” feel happy because others want me to be happy. But only I know my goal and I’m nowhere near. Maybe I can’t celebrate the small milestone because there’s so much to study, learn and apply. The blade needs to be sharpened/ maintained every single day.

One thing is for sure, I feel entitled to nothing. This new chapter is not an expectation but rather a responsibility. This color opens doors I only heard of.

Finally I’ll be able to train with the coach/professor of my dreams! On a deeper level. More than once a month.

Overall I feel a huge sense of gratitude to every single wonderful human in my path throughout this journey.

As I write this I’m able to understand why. A belt color is not the goal. But yes, I am thankful for the new doors opening this season.

Now, why bother to share this?

Simply to be a reminder and hopefully awaken someone’s awareness (if it helps).

Whether a stripe or a new belt. You are exactly where you need to be. There’s no need to be or feel what others want you to be or feel. Feel what you feel. Step out of it. Reach your goal.

Thank you to all my professors for teaching me everything I know about this gentle art. Thank you for holding the space for understanding. Thank you for guiding and fueling this fire in me. ⚡️💥✨🌻🙏🏼🌟

Boundaries

“Those who matter don’t mind. And those who mind don’t matter.”-Dr Seuss

Sometimes the hardest terms to accept is that it’s ok to say no. It’s ok to set boundaries . From the food that you eat to the activities you engage in.

Who said you have to be in a situation for the sake of sparring another’s feelings? Why? What about your hard work? What about your drive? Will you let another dim your light?

What do you want out of life and what are you willing to give? What are you willing to hold on to and what are you willing to let go of? Are you willing to set boundaries and stand up for yourself?

This doesn’t make you a bad person. It simply means you respect yourself enough to go for what you want.

It takes a level of honesty to dismiss and let go. It takes courage to enter the unknown. It takes consistency to arrive and stay.

It will take all of you to get where you need to be.

Hesitate if you must. But carry on.

Maybe ego has something to do with it, yes! Because you owe it to yourself to provide the life you have always dreamed of. No more hiding pretending you can’t save yourself.

Nothing too serious y’all 🤪🥰

JiuJitsu has helped a bunch with this!

Constantly enduring situations that could be avoided. JiuJitsu has helped set, adjust and create boundaries. Wait what? You’re trying to do what to me? Nah!

We can talk about motivation and discipline. Which these are vital ingredients to any journey. The new one I found is boundaries. Boundaries are scary! Motivation is exotic and discipline not very attractive. Still, the show must go on 🙏🏼 xoxo Your favorite Cactus ✨

The One With The Dress

Fell in love with a rock star who wasn’t truly a rockstar but rather a crook a thief with a weak team.

Oh but nobody would talk about the events soon to come. Admired by seekers of personal game and wealth.

The team against those who longed for pensions and justice. The woman behind every call, behind their every move. The woman whose time at the job blurred the vision.

Crooks, professional crooks but sloppy and greedy and selfish. Killing each other when the diamond didn’t have the right cut. Eliminating their best, doubting their loyalty. Boosting their egos with “ kill him/her” “you’re fired” “get out of my face” “I don’t need you anymore”

Eventually it all changed. Professional crooks who thought high of themselves. Yet, high school dropouts, Not fully educated. they didn’t love knowledge, nor politics, nor spirituality or religion, philosophy or anatomy.

They just loved money. Jewels 💎 the spotlight the night life. The team against:

The determined for discipline. The hungry for knowledge. The God fearing who did not boast nor seekers for jewels (their hearts and their deeds where precious gems no one could ever steal or take.) hearts and deeds precious beyond words.

Every evil fights the good. Every good fights hard to survive. The good fight. Not a superhero story with a person of special inhuman devoted talents.

Rather a human to it’s full potential to love and understand.

Now....

“ in love I will do whatever he says”

In silence she thought to herself so that no one would shit in her paradise.

But issa vibe he heard the scream in her head.

The silence spoke loud of itself.

“Here, wear this dress 👗 pretend you don’t know.

In reality she had no idea

Deep inside she knew it was no good.

She wanted to stick around like she didn’t have a place to call home.

“After she puts on the dress, she will stand out. She will drag attention to herself. The crowd will notice and love her and that’s our time to strike. Optical illusions, like a magic trick the bait to distract focused, protective eyes.”

Something like the sw cholos but these? Not all wore dickies. Some wore suits and long sleeves.

She knew she’ll get dropped off. But like always. She got over excited to take part in the tricks that she forgot to ask who will pick her up? What would be the final move? After the jewels where taken, after it was all set and done.

Beautiful, good height, big eyes , large smile that lit the whole room. A laugh you can hear across the room. A vibe you could feel before it arrived. A presence you missed when it wasn’t there. Much different than other baits they had used.... that was their mistake.

One who had always got her way. One that thought for herself, taught herself by ear,one who welcomed advice, loved God and spread compassion.

Team against team

And the bait.

Then the organized intellectuals ready to catch a break and bust these crooks.

A glove they wanted her to wear. She played dumb like “it doesn’t fit” in reality, she didn’t like how it didn’t match the outfit and prohibit movement from her hands. “You put both fingers in one sleeve. Turn it around, not like that, look like this” glove fit the demonstration hand well enough to get stuck in that hand.

Good! She thought to herself , now I don’t have to wear it and go about my business how I WANT (like I always do).

She went on...

She got dropped off. She shined... too bright.

As she walked out thinking nobody noticed she got stopped

We know who you are

Excuse me?

We know you’re part of their game

What game?

Don’t play dumb

Lol what in the world? Listen my ride is here I have to go.

They passed right in front of her in the car but since she got stopped they ignored her like saying SAVE YOURSELF WE ARE OUT. *leaving her stranded

She thought to herself “LOL dang that’s fucked up, I trusted their... nvm” well then let us play.

Listen lady I don’t know who you are or what you’re talking about but I’m here alone. I came alone and I’m leaving alone now I thought my Uber had arrived, it looks like my request was not submitted. If you can excuse me for a second while I send the request and we can talk before it arrives....

Her speech

Graceful, respectful , mindful and kind.

Threw the lady off... she can’t be part of them. She’s not like the others, she can’t possibly be one of them. Lady was still guarded second guessing her intuition, space and time.

They conversed about life

The crooks watched from a far how she handled herself in the middle of the storm.

They hated her. They wanted to see how she was not yet arrested. They got “brave” and sent the one with the glove 🧤 to talk her out of the conversation.

Let’s go I’m here for you

Excuse me? But I don’t know you.

I don’t know what she’s talking about and I don’t know who you are.

Clearly there has been a misunderstanding.

The one she fell in love with outraged by the situation. Wanting the jewel wasn’t enough, they wanted the bait DEAD 💀

Intense anger with no true love or knowledge.

Anger that knocked down his own thrown and tower. His little warriors watched. Their faces blue.

Lady astonished.

Girl says “hey, I don’t know who you are. I don’t know who they are but clearly it’s your time to shine. Go after them, i get the vibe you’ve been searching your whole life.

They thought girl was bait but girl was hero for the ones who had worked hard and loved deep. Girl, like always ,had no idea though clicked in one team truly to bring justice to another team.

Lady says “ my life’s work. We both had a team but my team endured.my team was unified. My team believed. My team was patient” sure. They had a team. Nothing like my team. Their team constantly made changes to “misguide” but my teams goal was to guide. Eliminating pride. They? Went during the day and hid to only go out at night.

The last change they made got them what they finally deserved. Their pride got them a sentence they could not live with for their rest of their lives.

As it continues to unfold... some died on their own, slowly one by one till the last one stood and got cuffed by the lady.

Girl gracefully walking away , she even began to think she didn’t take part of any of it. Lady’s vibe saying “Don’t forget” yet “thank you” at the same time.

Lady you have earned it. You built your team off loyalty. While others folded you stood strong against every wind. When others didn’t believe you searched for answers to fill their gaps. The investigator Queen 👸 the whole time they thought it was a man behind their trail.

The girl with the smile to go with the dress

The crooks who jumped right in their sentence

The ending with no end

The story of a man whose ego was told was the enemy but of course: a mocker, he didn’t believe.

Written on March 27, 2018 at 4:24a Not a true story but perhaps preparing me to expand my mind. It’s not until now that I’m living the life I am, realizing this may have a message for me and pure entertainment for you my dearest friend. Dreams. Just dreams.

5 Day Juice cleanse

Now I know an easy way to loose 7lbs in 4 days! Except I’m not trying to sale you anything and I also don’t recommend it to everyone.

This is for the individual who

  • Needs to reset their digestive system.

  • Wants a mental challenge.

  • Needs to Detox

  • Feel more energized

  • Is ok with not being ok

Out of these 5 you must sincerely be down for 4! Yeah, if you lack one that’s ok. That one will grow on you . Less than 4 will make the days drag but you still will be able to get it done.

Why did I decide to fast and only drink juice?

The main reason was to see if I could. I have always seen and heard of people do juice cleanse and it has been a pinch in my curiosity ever since. Finally! I did it and I finished ✔️

Was it easy? Not at all

    Did I workout? Yes

Did I go to work? Yes

    Did I pass out? No

    Did I throw up? Almost

    What did it consist of?

6 juices a day for 5 days & water. Yup no extra stuff.

Now, the juicy stuff. Was it tasty? …. No. It was not a walk in the park or a gentle kiss from God. But I feel stronger, calm, peaceful and mega energized. I feel light. I feel capable.

Everybody’s experience will be different. This is mine. Maybe you try a one day juice cleanse or even a three day! Find a juice place that you trust and like to support and get the juices from them. It’s easier this way. Not very cost effective but the fact that you invest your money will also add to the urgency of needing to complete the challenge.
